  30. 1965 Voting Rights Act In 1965, the Voting Rights Act was passed to make sure all citizens have an equal right to vote regardless of race.Section 5 of the VRA requires all jurisdictions with a history of discrimination to get pre-approval before making any changes in voting laws that could affect minorities.
