  4. Language Arts • Writing • Grammar • Core…will be taught in thematic units with a culminating test (standard based) • 20 Minutes Daily Reading (homework) • Dibels Goals WPM: 150, 151, 162 with 99% accuracy

Social Studies/Science/Word Study/Nonfiction Reading & Writing • SOCIAL STUDIES • 5 Themes of Geography • Northern & Southern Africa • Southern/SE/E/SW Asia • India • China and Its Neighbors • SCIENCE • Physical Science (Heat and Matter, Light, Color, and Sound) • Earth Science (Technology, Weather, Earth Processes, Universe, Resources and Conservation) • Human Body (Control Systems, Drugs and Life Skills, etc.)

Homework/Grading • District Policy of about 30 minutes a night - Parents may sign homework if the time allotted has been used, NOT including daily reading (20 minutes per night) • 5% of the student’s grade is a homework grade, depending on the subject area and frequency • 50% of every grade is the Unit Test or End of Unit Activity (district wide). • Responsibility: students are responsible for their work and belongings. • 24 hour Grace Period for homework – not to be abused. • Long-range assignments and projects not ready on the day they are due, will be marked 10% off for each day for the first five days, but it will accepted up to ten days after the due date.

  10. General Info • BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) • Field Trips: Gretna Glen Ropes Course (October 7th), Washington D.C. (June 7th)…Need Independent Parent Clearances if interested in chaperoning • Chorus (NOT Before Christmas)/Musical • Track and Field (Both a John Beck only day and a District Day)
