The SAGES Go Global program, initiated by Dr. McGill and others, aims to enhance surgical training in underserved areas. With a focus on laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the initiative recently took root in Cape Verde, where local surgeons like Dr. Victor Mureira de Costa and Dr. Jose Fragosso are receiving tailored training. This weeklong program includes both didactic sessions and hands-on clinical training. With generous equipment donations from Karl Storz Endoscopy and Ethicon Endosurgery, the goal is to improve surgical capabilities and address the high incidence of gastric cancer in the region.
