Jacob Backslides (Ch 34) • Settling - instead of moving • Compromising - in a “bad place” • Godless - Leaving God out • Idolatry - Serve other things • Immoral - morally adrift… • Selfish – self consumed • Destructive (curse, not blessing) • Destructive to spiritual purpose • Destructive to others • Destructive to your inner life

  7. Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard. Proverbs 13:15

  8. The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above. Proverbs 14:14

  9. Your own wickedness will correct you, And your backslidings will rebuke you. Jeremiah 2:19

  10. “Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.” Jeremiah 3:22

  11. Jacob Repents, Rededicates (35) • God speaking – involved • Arise, move (from settling) • Return to first love – go back • Put away idols – at cross • Be cleansed from sin • Recognize His faithfulness • “Israel” restored • Death of things in our life

Then he charged them and said to them: “I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought…for a burial place. Genesis 49:29-31
