Delivering Collaborative Software Development for Modelers in Transportation Planning

This paper explores the significant role of codebases in collaborative software development, particularly for modelers within the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA). Since the initial development of the DTA model for the Doyle Drive ramp closure study in 2009, to the expansion of the DTA model for Geary DTA, we analyze how open-source practices and collaborative tools have reshaped our approach. The paper emphasizes the importance of code structure, documentation, and community engagement in producing effective and sustainable transportation modeling solutions.
