  2. Graph #1 • Choose the line that is a graph of y = -2x + 2 • What do we already know about the equation of this line? The direction of the line is neg. • So what graphs can we eliminate? The second and fourth graph. • On the remaining graphs label all the points. • If we input 0 for x what output are we going to get for y? If you input a 0 for x you will get an output of 2 for y. Y = -2(0) + 2, y = 2 5. What is this point called? The Point (0,2) is the y-int. 6. What graph has a neg. slope and also has the y-int of ____(0,2)___?

  3. Graph #2 • What is the equation of the line represented in this graph.(0,-1) (0,-1)A) y = -3x -1 -(1,2)+(-1,-2) B) y = 1x - 1 Distribute Neg. (-1, -3) 3 C) y = 3x – 1 Slope = y = -3 = 3 x -1 D) y = -1x – 1 3 • What do we already know about the equation of this line? The direction of the line is pos. • What answers can we eliminate? We can eliminate answers A and D. • Label the points of the line? • What is a good strategy to use to find the slope now that all the points are labeled? What do we do with the neg. sign outside of the grouping? We can use the stack and subtract method with 2 of the ordered pairs. We have to distribute the neg. • How do we find the y-int? and what is the y-int? We can input 0 for x. Y = 3(0) – 1 y = -1 y-int = (0,-1) 6. What answer can the equation be now that we found the slope & y-int? C

  4. Graph #3 • Choose the ordered pair that satisfies this equation. Y = 1x3 3 A)3 = 1(3)3 3 = 1 • 27 3 = 27 3 = 9 no 3 3 1 3 A) (3,3) B)3 = 1(9)3 3 = 1 • 729 3 = 729 3 =243 no 3 3 1 3 B) (9,3) C)27 = 1(3)3 27 = 1 • 27 27 = 27 27 = 9 no 3 3 1 3 C) (3,27) D)9 = 1(3)3 9 = 1 • 27 9 = 27 9 = 9 yes 3 3 1 3 D) (3,9) • What do you think would be a good strategy to see what ordered pair is a solution to this line? We can substitute the ordered pairs into the equation and see which one gives us the same answer on each side of the = sign. • What does cubed root mean? It means a # that is multiplied by itself 3 times. Ex: 2 • 2 • 2 3. Which ordered pair is the solution to this line? D

  5. Graph #4 • What is the slope of line K? A) 3 (0,2) (0,2) B) -1 -(1,-1)+(-1,1) 3 DistributeNeg. (-1,3) • -3 slope = y = 3 = -3 • 1 x -1 3 • What do we already know about the equation of this line? The direction of the line is neg. 2. What do we need to do with the points of this line? We need to label the points on the line. 3. What is a good strategy to use to find the slope now that all the points are labeled? What do we do with the neg. sign outside of the grouping? We can use the stack and subtract method. We have to distribute the neg. 4. What is the y-intercept? (0,2)
