Background and Scope The main objective of the ICTI2014 Conference is to promote efficient planning, design, construction, and maintenance of transportation facilities and infrastructures by addressing some issues related to the wide field of problems pertaining to roads, railways, airports, ports and harbors, intermodal and mass transit. The common issues are: to preserve the large infrastructure investment to maintain the existing transport infrastructures at a high level of service to provide a sustainable transportation infrastructure system, covering all modes of transportation to meet the needs of modern society.

  3. Background and Scope New modelling tools and technologies are being developed for advanced design methods, construction and maintenance of transportation facilities and infrastructures. In this context there is an increasing need for a forum where international experts in these fields can exchange experiences and views, and identify the needs for further research and development. The ICTI2014 Conference aims to provide such a forum for new concepts and innovative solutions, and it will be an important meeting place for researchers, practising engineers, and other professionals.

  4. Location Pisa is in Tuscany, which is a very attractive Region in the center of Italy. Every year, summer in Tuscany is rich with myriad events that you can't miss! Tuscany's art cities prep to entertain and amuse the many visitors that visit them and the events organized are steeped in history and fun for all. Historical re-enactments, internationally-renowned music festivals and special events to enjoy the hot, summer days and warm, summer nights throughout the region.

  5. Location Pisais few km away from Florence (80 km), Siena (100 km), Lucca (20 km) and very close to the sea (10 km). Special tours will be planned for accompanying persons to visit these nice destinations.

  6. Pisa – Piazza dei Miracoli Pisais much more than the renowned leaning Towerand deserves a visit that lasts much longer than the unmissable pause at the beautifulPiazza dei Miracoli, a UNESCOheritage site.

  7. Pisa – The Lungarni Pisa, an old Marine Republic, is a city born and raised along the axis of the Arno. The view that the inlets grant of the Lungarni and the buildings overlooking the river, always spectacular and ever changing, can be admired from the five bridges that cross the Arno or by river boat. Byron, Shelley, Montesquieu, Leopardi, Carducci, D’Annunzio, Foscolo, among others, have written of the Lungarni of Pisa.

  8. Pisa – the history Out of town but equally impressive is the Romanesque Basilica of San Piero a Grado where, according to legend, the apostle Peter landed in 44 AD. Pisa is the city of Galileo Galilei, who gave his name to the most important International Airport, and whose fourth centennial since his first astronomical observations was celebrated in 2009.

  9. Pisa – the sea Pisa flows to the sea and has a coastline enclosed by the Natural Regional Park Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli. A few kilometres along the coast, Marina di Pisa, Tirreniaand Calambroneoffer the visitor three different types of seaside options.

  10. Pisa – The University Pisa is a city of learning, research and universities with national and international class institutes: the Scuola Normale Superiore, in the atmospheric Piazza dei Cavalieri and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, in the beautiful Piazza dei Martiri della Libertà, the National Research Council (CNR).

  11. The Engineering Building • The Conference will be organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, which is composed of: • Five sections: Building and Architecture, Geotechnical, Transportation, Structural, Survey • 12 Full professors • 14 Associate professors • 23 Researchers

  12. Invitation We have the pleasure to invite you to the 3rd International Conference on Transport Infrastructures ICTI2014, to be held in Pisa, Italy, in July 2014. The Conference will provide an important opportunity: • to share experiences and innovative ideas from all over the world concerning the many issues pertaining planning, design, construction and maintenance of transportation facilities and infrastructures; • to visit Tuscany and its very amazing cities.
