  2. MISD: Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence 191 voters select the first MISD Board of Trustees – J.H. Harrison, N.T. Smith, A.E. Bryson W.B. McKnight, H.D. Stephens, Dr. William Rumph, and J.H. Board. The year is 1909: Silent movie His Duty starringMary Pickford and directed by D. W. Griffith provided entertainment for local families. Matthew Henson of Robert Peary’s expedition becomes the first man to reach the North Pole. Vess L. Ossman, also known as The Banjo King, had toes tapping to the sounds of the “St. Louis Tickle”. William Howard Taft is sworn in as President. Gertrude Stein writes Three Lives.

MISD: Celebrating 100 Years of Excellence The MISD 100th Year Celebration Committee was formed last August and includes members from the local community, current MISD employees, and former MISD faculty and students. The committee has been working with district administrators to develop a collection of educational activities and district and community events to honor and celebrate 100 years of educational excellence in Mansfield.
