Same translations • There are some words in Spanish that have the exact meaning in English. • In Spanish, the two words have very different usages and meanings. • Ser and estar are examples both mean “to be” • Saber and conocer are another. • Saber and conocer are irregular in conjugation. • Saber and conocer both mean “to know”

  3. Same translations • Saber is used when “to know” deals with facts or data. • I know the capital. • You know math. • I know you are the president of the club. • All of the above are factual. Everyone can have the same information by reading, searching, or asking around. • Saber = to know (facts)

  4. Same translation • Conocer is used in reference to be familiar or acquainted with. • I know Sally. (I am acquainted with Sally). • I know France. (I am familiar with France). • I know the president of the club. (I am familiar with the president of the club). • Conocer is information that is gathered by each person differently from experiences. • Conocer = to know (person/place)
