New Student Assignment PlanTransition Plan for 2012-13 Boundary and Assignment Amendments for JSIS B.F. Day McDonald
Current boundary is unsustainable • 18 rooms currently in use as homerooms (2 more than target) • Will need 23 homerooms by Fall 2014 • Combined capacity of JSIS and McDonald can support the population for about two more years • High demand for language immersion Boundary change • 45th becomes north boundary of JSIS • B.F. Day boundary extends east to include both sides of Bagley (Corliss stays in JSIS boundary)
What We Heard from Parents • Incoming K siblings in the current boundary should be able to go to JSIS • Adjust boundaries to a sustainable level (2-3 K classes each year) • Remove uncertainty associated with waiting lists • Protect access to language immersion for incoming students who are not K siblings (families moved here for this) • Increase availability of language immersion seats
Assignment Amendmentsfor 2012-13 • Incoming K siblings of JSIS students in Area # 1 and Area # 2 will be guaranteed assignment to JSIS. • Must apply during Open Enrollment and list JSIS as first choice • Students in Area # 1 who are not entering K siblings will be guaranteed assignment to McDonald. • Must apply during Open Enrollment and list McDonald as one of your choices • Offers an assurance of access to language immersion
