General Safety Rules Never click on a link in an email Do not click an alert that pops up Always keep your virus protection up-to-date Keep your operating system updates current It if sounds to good to be true… Always verify! Auction Fraud • Ask questions. • Review the seller's feedback. • Be cautious (outside the US) . • Understand refund, return, & warranty policies. • Determine the shipping charges before you buy. • Be wary of wire transfers or cash. • Escrow: ensure it is legitimate. • Consider insuring your item. • Be cautious of unsolicited offers.

Counterfeit Cashier's Check • Figures and words match? • The account number is not shiny in appearance. • Is signature is traced? • Generally perforated on at least one side. • Inspect the check for alterations. • Contact the financial institution • Do not trust phone #. • Be cautious when dealing outside the US.

  14. Credit Card Fraud Ensure a site is. Don't trust claims to be secure. reputable source. Reconcile credit card statements Research the individual or company. Do not give credit card to unsolicited emails.

Be aware of missed bills Be cautious with your personal information. Unless you make the call don’t give CC info Monitor your credit statements Report unauthorized transactions Review credit report at least once a year.

  18. Phishing/Spoofing Be suspicious of any unsolicited email. Avoid filling out forms in email messages. Always compare the link in the email. Log on to the official website Contact the actual business
