This report outlines the trajectory of dam safety over the next 25 years, focusing first on immediate changes in the FERC dam safety program. In the short term (1-5 years), new risk-informed decision guidelines will be introduced on a trial basis for select projects, while deterministic guidelines will remain applicable. Mid-term (5-20 years), there will be a broader implementation of risk-informed decision-making and integration with business risk management. Long-term (20+ years), general use of risk assessment techniques and systems approaches will be established across all FERC projects.
