Water Quality Monitoring Program in Minas Gerais: An Overview

The water quality monitoring program in the freshwater resources of Minas Gerais is conducted by the Instituto Mineiro de Gestão de Águas (IGAM) and began in 1997. It includes 260 sampling stations across eight major hydrographic basins and performs four annual sample collections spanning various hydrological cycle stages. The program assesses a variety of physico-chemical, microbiological, and ecotoxicological variables.   1. The monitoring programe of water quality in freshwatwer resources in the state od Minas Gerais is carried out by the Instituto Mineiro de Gestão de Águas – IGAM. This programe started in 1997 and covers 260 different sampling stations located in eight major hydrographic basins. The sampling programe includes four annual samplins covering the different stages of hydrological cycle. Several physico-chemical microbiological and ecotoxicologycal variables are considered. The analyses are carried out in the State Foundation for technological and scientific developement CETEC-MG. IGAM website http://www.igam.mg.gov.br/
