The water quality monitoring program in the freshwater resources of Minas Gerais is conducted by the Instituto Mineiro de Gestão de Águas (IGAM) and began in 1997. It includes 260 sampling stations across eight major hydrographic basins and performs four annual sample collections spanning various hydrological cycle stages. The program assesses a variety of physico-chemical, microbiological, and ecotoxicological variables.
