Seven Characteristics of Life: • Cellular Organization: all living things (organisms) are made of one or more cells. • Reproduction: necessary to carry on the species. • Metabolism: the use and maintenance of energy (sum of all chemical reactions). • Homeostasis: Internal control and balance. • Heredity: passing of genetic material from parent to offspring. • Responsiveness: reacting to a stimulus. • Growth and Development: develops in stages.

  9. Common name: Chinchilla • Scientific name: Euneomysfossor • The diet of a chinchilla is roots, bark, and cactus. They are herbivores • The chinchilla reproduces sexually. There are usually 1-3 kits per litter. • The purpose of a chinchilla is to be a consumer and to reproduce. • Chinchillas live in Chile in the Andes Mountains. They live on slopes at elevations from 10,000 feet to 16,500 feet. They live in crevices between rocks and in caves. It is very cold where they live, so they have their very think fur for a reason. Also, they live in herds. • The size range is: • Males: 400-500 grams • Females: 400-600 grams • Interesting facts: • Doesn’t bathe in water, but in dust instead. • They are born with their eyes open. • They are nocturnal. • They are on the endangered species list.

Common name: british soldiers • The British Soldier is a producer, it makes its own food. • It is a multicellular organism and it is a eukaryote. • They make their own food from water and carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. • The normal size of a British Soldier is only about ¼ inch high (6mm). • To reproduce they travel by wind and start a new fungus. They reproduce asexually. • The environmental significance of this organism is they take nitrogen from the air and put it into the soil, so plants can use it. • Their habitat is they grow on decaying wood, soil, mossy logs, tree bases, and stumps. • Two interesting facts about a British Soldier is: • Lichens spread mostly by small pieces of their body being blown around. • They get their name from the uniform that British Soldiers wore in the Revolutionary War.
