Paul Revere(1735-1818) • Boston Mass. • He was a silversmith (spoons, teapots, plates, etc) • Lived when England controlled colonies • Belonged to the Sons of Liberty that wanted freedom • British Government put taxes on goods • also a mail carrier • Warning the colonists that the British were coming • Captured and then let go • the war ended in 1783 • Diligence=a hard worker • Liberty=freedom fought the British rule • In the war for 8 years

Frederick Douglass1818-1895 • Was a slave • Lived in Baltimore, Maryland • Learned to read • Wanted liberty • Worked for a ship builder • Had to give money to their owner • Planed a escape • Borrowed papers and escaped slavery • Did speeches • Paid and legally free • Helped women • Helped slaves escape • Schools named after him • Character trait justice liberty expression • Statue of him in Rochester,NY • Started a newspaper

  5. Mary McLeod Bethune 1875-1955 Mary was born in a cabin in Mayesville, South Carolina She went to school. Mary became a teacher. Mary wanted to read. She started a school in Daytona beach,Flordia. A statue was honored by her the year after she died. She had to travel by train every day for H.S. in North Carolina. She was known for diligence,respect for authority,and justice.

  6. Susan B. Anthony 1820-1906 Anthony was a teacher and then got fired for complaining about pay. She gave speeches. Her character traits are diligence and justice. Became a principal of the Girl’s Department. Women can own property. Went to a Quaker church where men and women were treated fairly. She was on the sliver dollar. Women would go to jail if they voted. Susan went to jail for voting. Boys and girls were not treated fairly.
