Sandro Botticelli. Painter 1445 – 1510. Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi aka Sandro Botticelli “the little barrel ”. Born in 1445 in Florence Italy during the early Italian Renaissance Apprenticed at age 14 to a goldsmith Apprenticed in 1462 to Fra Filippo Lippi, a painter.

By 1470, he had his own workshop • His work is characterized by figures shown which look flat, rather than 3- dimensional) Round Paintings were popular in his time Primavera (1482) Like most artists of his day, Botticelli painted portraits and images for wealthy people and the church – the only ones who could afford to pay him for his work
