  1. Prototype Hard and Soft Tooling PHAST Update • PHAST Conception • Proctor & Gamble developed a powder metal process called PHAST, which stands for Prototype Hard And Soft Tooling. The goal of the process was to produce durable injection-mold tooling for prototypes and short run production. • PHAST Donation • After research and development was discontinued, P&G decided to donate the PHAST technology to a University. The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) was chosen among several top universities conducting RP-related research. • PHAST Technology Transfer • The basic PHAST technology was transferred by P&G to MSOE in the year 2000 through consultation and process demonstration. • PHAST Process • The indirect process starts with a 3D pattern and after several proprietary steps, a durable Metal Matrix Composite Mold is produced. • Current PHAST Status • The PHAST process is being evaluated in several areas including mold wear, accuracy, resolution, hardness, and reparability. • PHAST Applications • The original applications for PHAST have evolved. PHAST is now aimed at High Performance tooling for single and multi-cavity production mold inserts with conformal cooling.
