  2. DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS

  3. DATA • Data collected by MSI in each of the 7 CPAs in 2018. • A total of 4,208 households were surveyed, ranging from 414 in Torit to 817 in Yei. • Data were collected on: • household characteristics and livelihood sources; • availability of livelihood opportunities; • weather shocks and conservation; • food security and coping strategies; • health and health care; • community participation by women and children and community organization; • violence and insecurity; • conflict; • and perceptions of the quality of governance and the causes of conflict.

  17. BASIC SERVICES

  18. ASSETS RANKED BY IMPORTANCE

  19. SSN RANKED BY IMPORTANCE NOTE: NEED TO IMPROVE DATA COLLECTION ON THIS

  20. ADC RANKED BY IMPORTANCE

  21. GENDER UNBALANCED?

  22. IMPORTANCE OF PILLARS FOR RESILIENCE RANKED BY IMPORTANCE Elasticity : a measure of how much resilience is expected to change as a result of 1% change in individual pillar

  23. FOOD SECURITY RESPONSE TO RESILIENCE FCS HDDI Elasticity : a measure of how much resilience is expected to change as a result of 1% change in individual pillar ɛ=+1.08 ɛ=+.88 RESILIENCE ɛ=+.06 BASIC ɛ=+.03 ADC ɛ=+.12 ɛ=+.01 ASSET SSN

  24. RESILIENCE AND GENDER

  25. RESILIENCE AND AGE

  26. Note: We found that the relationship between resilience and pillars is quadratic instead of linear: ; it follows that the minimum value of corresponds to AVG. MINIMUM RESILIENCE VS. CURRENT

  27. LEVEL OF PILLARS FOR MINIMUM RESILIENCE

  28. RESILIENCE AND GOVERNANCE

  29. RESILIENCE AND CONFLICT

  30. KEY LESSONS • RESILIENCE MATTERS FOR FOOD SECURITY • RESILIENCE IS NOT DRIVEN BY ONE FACTOR ONLY; • NOT ALL DRIVERS HAVE SIMILAR EFFECTS; • ASSETS, BASIC SERVICES AND ADAPTIVE CAPACITIES ARE LEADING THE WAY • PARAMETERS IN EACH PILLAR HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS • CROSS-CUTTING FACTORS SUCH AS CONFLICT AND GOVERNANCE MATTER • EVIDENCE CALLS FOR HOLISTIC RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE INTERVENTIONS • CALL FOR IMPROVEMENT OF DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM
