  4. Minoan hieroglyphic and Linear A • Undeciphered • Ex: Phaistus’ disk

  5. Mycenean Linear B • Linear B is a Syllabary (one symbol= one syllable) • Linear B uses pictograms as well • It represents Greek • Ex: Ti-ri-po-dos= tri-po-dos (tripod)

  6. Phoenician Alphabet • On symbol= one sound • No relationship between the symbol and what it represents except convention. • Based on Proto-Canaanite (first alphabet) • Basis of the Greek alphabet (and our own (Latin)).
