  1. Warm-upDecember 9, 2013 On a map with a scale of one inch equals 20 miles, 2 cities are 6.5 inches apart. How many miles are the cities from each other? Harold walks ½ mile in 1/5 hour. What is his unit rate of speed? One 20 pound bag of fertilizer will cover 50 sq. ft. of lawn. How many bags are needed for a 2750 sq. foot lawn?

  2. PERCENT CHANGE • Formula: (End – Beginning )/ Beginning • (End minus Beginning) divided by Beginning • Then change to a % • + = increase • - = decrease • From 25 to 75 • From 50 to 25

  3. Find the selling price for each item given the cost and the percent of markup or markdown. • Computer: $500; 30% markup • Watch: $25.00; 50% markup • Ipad: $499.00; 20% markdown

  4. SIMPLE AND COMPOUND INTEREST • SIMPLE: $ * I * # of years • Dollar amount times the interest rate (as a decimal) times the number of years • COMPOUND: $ * I for year one, then new $ amount times I for year 2, then new $ amount times I for year 3, etc.

  5. Find the simple interest to the nearest cent. • $720 at 8% for 5 years • $385 at 6% for 3 years • $4250 at 9.25% for 10 years

  6. Find the total amount in each account to the nearest cent (interest compounded annually). • $2200 at 5% for 2 years • $3850 at 6% for 3 years • $1000 at 4% for 5 years
