  2. Important Years • 1583- Born in Oxford, United Kingdom • 1596- Orlando became a member of the King’s College Choir at Cambridge • 1603- Gibbons became a member of the Chapel Royal • 1605- Appointed its organist • June 5, 1625- Died in Canterbury, United Kingdom

Influence on Renaissance • Considered the leading English composer of his generation • Positions Held: • Organist of the Royal Chapel • Keyboard player in the privy chamber of the all-important court of Prince Charles • Organist at Westminster Abbey. • Holding the position among the private musicians of Prince Charles (King Charles I) helped to inaugurate one of the greatest eras in chamber music that Western music has seen.
