  2. National Gallery • As Canada’s national gallery of art, the NG houses famous Canadian and International works. • It is a beautiful building that often hosts weddings and other lofty events. • The sculpture of a spider outside the gallery is called “Maman”, meaning mother, as it has eggs in its sack.

  3. National Gallery Roof of the Great Hall A photo of us inspired by a Caravaggio painting

  4. Nepean Point

  5. Museum of Civilization • It is the national museum of human history in Canada and the country’s most visited museum. • It aims to illuminate the cultural diversity of Canada’s people. • It features a Grand Hall with grand windows and totem poles. • Douglas Cardinal, the aboriginal architect, took inspiration from his heritage when designing the building. • The museum will soon be renamed The Canadian History Museum, in a propaganda effort by the populist Conservative gov. • It is actually on the Quebec side

  6. Museum of Civilization

  7. War Museum • This modern museum showcases the Canadian history of war. • Its multi-media exhibits are interactive and informative. • It almost makes you forget that the museum is about people killing people over a little bit of land and the quarrels of the powerful. “Hippie!”

  8. Canadian Museum of Nature • This is a museum of natural history. Everything from dinosaurs, to ocean life, to butterflies are portrayed in this museum. • A fun family destination. • Recently, it has taken to hosting a late-night dance party for young Ottawaiians.

  9. National Arts Centre • The NAC hosts a variety of performing arts. • They have French and English theatre, orchestra, opera, dance and a jumble of variety shows. • They feature a special discount for last minute student tickets that is not to be missed!

  10. The Bytowne Cinema • If you like Indie, art house and foreign films, head to Sandy Hill’s Bytowne Cinema for the latest in a film-goer’s dream. • If you love movies, get a year-long membership for a reduced rate on admissions.

  11. Mayfair Cinema • This Indie theatre features off the beaten path screenings, the same as the Bytowne but with an ironic twist. • Often, they host special events, such as a live radio-play version of “The Night of the Living Dead”. • There are also monthly screenings of infamous films, such as The Room, for those diehards so inclined.
