  11. UNESCO University-Industry Science Partnership Programme UNISPAR programme was launched by UNESCO in 1993 to promote university participation in the industrialization process. The main goals of the Programmes: Adapt university engineering education to industrial needs Promote partnerships between universities and industry for the retraining of practicing engineers (continuing engineering education). Find effective ways and means of improving the transfer of research results to industry Give assistance to UNESCO Member States in creating or strengthening effective university-industry-science co-operation

  12. UNISPAR Programme • Industry-Sponsored UNESCO Chair was also launched in 1991. • In 2002, Science Policy and Sustainable Development Division integrated science and technology parks (STP) cooperation in the UNISPAR Programme.

Science and Technology Park: Notion Business support and technology transfer initiative that: - Encourages and supports start up, incubation and development of innovation led, high growth, knowledge based businesses - Larger businesses link to centre of knowledge - Formal and operational links with centres of knowledge

  15. Objectives of UNESCO STP activities 1. Promote R&D by the university in partnership with industry 2. Promote economic development via growth of new ventures 4. Facilitate the creation of innovation–based companies 5. Stimulate and manage the flow of knowledge and technology among universities, R&D institutions, companies and markets 6. Provide an environment where knowledge-based enterprises can develop close interactions with a center of knowledge for their mutual benefit

  16. Pilot projects (PP) - PP is a follow-up of the regional training workshop and will be developed one in each region a. Arab States: Mubarak City for Science and Technology, Alexandria, Egypt. The project pilot is going on. b. Africa : Windhoek, Namibia ( will start next year) c. Asia-Pacific: UNESCO is accepting proposals - PP receives a technical assistance from UNESCO and will be used an object demonstration on capacity building
