  2. You may have gotten acquainted with the term “xenoestrogens” in the media nowadays, but what are they really, and why should you know? Xenoestrogens are substances that are similar to the hormone estrogen in the body. “Xeno” derives from foreign, alien estrogens that can disrupt our natural hormone balance. Many of us don’t realize that we are, at some level or another, exposed to xenoestrogens daily when we drink water, eat foods, apply products to our skin and even breathe air. This way, they can enter our bodies through used plastic bottles, traditional milk and meat products, perfumes, and other items. Estrogens produced in foreign bodies also behave estrogenic in our bodies and tend to disrupt a delicate mechanism of hormonal cascade controlling mood to menstruation.

  3. The hormonal imbalance that results from too much estrogen in the system can be traced back to estrogen dominance. This is a common problem that is increasingly becoming one that can affect your everyday life, translating into very undesirable symptoms. Estrogen dominance can cause PMS, menstrual cramps, heavy periods, irregular cycles, acne, fibroids, endometriosis, PCOS, anxiety, and depression. You can guess that this hormonal imbalance would have a significant impact on women’s way of life and living.

  4. There are many things we can do to reduce our exposure to xenoestrogens. Tapped filtered water is healthier, and you should consider avoiding plastic bottles. Selecting organic produce is a good option as it is free of pesticides and growth hormones compared to its regular counterpart. Choose grass-fed and organic meat to prevent the hormones routinely administered to livestock. Using skin care products that do not contain parabens or phthalates will assist in bypassing the penetration through the skin. Using room or other deodorizers which contain synthetic perfumes should be avoided. These contribute to polluted indoor air. Instead of buying these chemical-laden-polluting products, making our own home cleaning products helps us decrease xenoestrogen levels in our homes. Occasional opening of windows draws fresh outdoor air and dilutes indoor pollutants. Although it seems challenging, we can significantly lower our exposure to xenoestrogens with some easy substitutions and comparatively simple lifestyle changes.

  5. Suppose you are conscious about the intake of xenoestrogens. In that case, you must prioritize your liver, the primary filter through which our bodies detoxify. Add greens like arugula, dandelion, and radicchio to your diet for this. These leafy greens support liver functions by promoting bile flow, which detoxes the liver. Flaxseeds, for instance, help in binding to the excess estrogens. Try to have two tablespoons every day. Pay attention to the need for water purification and good hydration that rid the body of harmful substances.

  6. The compounds that should be eliminated to ensure proper endocrine function. Fortunately, we can avoid it by being aware and changing our lifestyle. If you’re feeling something that might be a symptom of hormonal imbalance, don’t put it off and book an appointment with a naturopath such as Dr. Jordan Atkinson, B.Sc., N.D. By diagnosing the underlying hormonal imbalance and prescribing customized treatment modalities, Dr. Jordan Atkinson will help your hormonal levels return to their optimum so you can feel much better soon. takeaway?
