  1. Dr. Lesleigh Franklin -How to Become a Clinical Psychologist Dr. Lesleigh Franklin is a professional psychologist in Oakland, California. According to Dr. Lesleigh Franklin, a clinical psychologist's job is to treat mental diseases through psychological treatments. Rather than prescribing drugs, clinical psychologists use psychological treatments such as cognitive therapy  and psychoanalytic therapy. Clinical psychologists have a variety of responsibilities, depending on the patient population they work with, which could include veterans, the elderly, or children. Any field of specialization they choose, such as neuro-psychology, has an impact on their day-to-day employment.

  2. Clinical psychologists may specialized further by focusing on children and adults with ADHD or Asperger's Syndrome, or by working in a specific setting. They can assist youngsters with learning problems in the classroom. They can assist students with making career selections, maintaining emotional health, and achieving academic goals at a university. While most clinical psychologists have a bachelor's degree in clinical psychology, it is not required for all graduate schools. If you know you want to be a clinical psychologist and are enrolling in a bachelor's degree program, it's a good idea to major in psychology so you can choose from a larger number of graduate degree program later on.

Some undergraduate programs lead to a master's degree, allowing you to study more quickly, graduate sooner, and begin your PhD program sooner. Earn Your Doctoral Degree: Although certain laws cover and grant limited license to master's-educated psychological associates, students the opportunity to practice in a limited capacity under the supervision and authority of registered psychologists, full authority certification in clinical psychology is always required. • There are two options available for earning a doctorate: • A Ph.D. in Psychology, often known as a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology, is a research-focused doctorate suitable for psychology teachers, researchers, and practitioners. • A PsyD, or Doctor of Psychology, is a practice-oriented doctorate geared toward practitioners and clinicians.

Specific eligibility criteria vary depending on where you reside and what kind of job you want, however clinical psychologists in most states must: • Obtain a doctoral degree in psychology. • Complete an internship and 1-2 years of professional experience under supervision. • Pass the Psychological Exam for Professional Practice.
