XenApp can host applications on central servers and allow users to interact with them remotely or stream and deliver them to user devices for local execution.   19. Installing XenApp 6.5 • Installing XenApp 6.5 has a few prerequisites. I would recommend letting the XenApp Server Role Manager (using the Server Role Installer) automatically install XenApp prerequisites.   Let look at some of the item you should look at when planning the deployment of XenApp 6.5 This will give you a list of questions you need to ask before even starting.   20. Installing XenApp 6.5 Hardware and Software considerations • What hardware will you be using? How much RAM does the server, what are the CPU's and their spec, what disks are going to be used and their speed. • Windows licensing? What edition of OS are you going to be using? Std, Ent or DataCenter. • Do you have your Windows RDS licensing? • What OS do you plan to install XenApp on and is it 32bit of 64bit? (6.5 requires 64bit) • What Citrix Licensing do you have and what model do you have? Concurrent or user/device?  Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004

Installing XenApp 6.5 Application/User Considerations • How many users do I anticipate will want to connect to each application during peak and off-peak hours? • Is there any compliance or security concerns/issues around your apps? • Will any of the apps be graphically intensive? • Do your apps require any USB peripherals? Digital dictation, scanners, CD burners, WebCams? • How are you planning to deliver your apps?  All of which have pro's and con's. • Do you required UAC? If so do you need it to prompt or not? Installing XenApp 6.5 • Networking Considerations  • What's your network topology like? • Do you have any high latency links? • What if any security measures are required? • Consider your AD requirements • Do you require single sign-on? • Is pass-through authentication required? Installing XenApp 6.5 Configuring XenApp • When it comes to configuring XenApp make sure you have information such  - Are you joining an existing farm or a new one? - If creating a new farm have the name and domain ready. - Select the data store database type and connection information. - Do you have the database credentials? - Are you going to use shadowing? - What server mode and zone name? - Do you have the licensing information? XenApp License Server • Once your XenApp Server installation is finished it's time to configure Licensing for your environment.   • NOTE: If you are adding in Licenses to the server MAKE SURE that your License Server's computer name is ExAcTlY the same as your host name on your MyCitrix license section Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004

  40. XenApp License Server • Once the XenApp installation has finished you will be prompted to configure the license side of things but first you need to setup a Windows Server with the Citrix License role installed**** Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004

XenApp License Server • Have a Windows 2008 R2 server configured to handle the licensing side of things so first thing first insert the XenApp 6.5 media.  Now the option to install the license side of things you have to drill down to find the option so click on >Manually install components>Common Components>Citrix Licensing. • NOTE: Now you need to install the Citrix Licnese server but first back sure you have .NET Framework 3.5.1 features through the add features wizard. XenApp License Server • Locate the License Administration Console under the all programs in your start menu, once the console starts locate the Administration link in the top right of the page and you will be prompted with log on page.   Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004

  48. XenApp License Server • Browse to the directory you copied your license file and select your license, now choose to "overwrite license file on license server" and click on import license. Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004

XenApp License Server • Now restart the Citrix License Server Service and then look back at the dashboard of the License console and you should see all your licenses checked in. • RESTART is Required to see the license file you just install Installing and Configuring Citrix in a CMDSeries Environment - IT-004
