Common Core • www.corestandards.org • Focused on 21st century skills • ELA-balance literature with informational text, narrative with informational writing, support with evidence • Math-explaining thinking, real life application • It means critically analyzing what we teach and how we assess students to improve an already rich and engaging curriculum!

  11. Homework • Daily - independent practice related to that day’s learning in class • Each day we take time in class to write assignments from the board into Weekly Agendas. • Read 20 minutes every night • Spelling/Vocabulary Weekly - Test Friday • 35-60 minutes per day • Parental support – 10%

  12. Communication • Weekly Homework Agenda***** • Binders • email list for updates about classroom topics • By phone/voicemail, note or appointment

  13. Parent’s Job • Initial Weekly Homework Agenda nightly • Go over papers in Friday Folder, SIGN Weekly Homework Agenda and return with empty folder on Monday. • Advocate for your child • Ask questions • Communicate the little things before they become big things
