  7. National church financial news • Parish share across dioceses continues to rise • 2012 costs to dioceses there is no increase • Proposal for 2013 1% rise • Pensions remain under pressure and costs for housing retired clergy rise • Numbers entering training increase again for autumn 2012

  8. The 2020 Challenge • The main strategic activity of 2012, deployment planning for 2020, starts with the assumption that the number of persons paid by the diocese will remain the same for the next 9 years • As these persons are to be rewarded fairly (with salaries, stipends, houses and pensions) we need a plan to increase total giving faster than our costs rise • This can be achieved by church members increasing in number and by each person increasing their individual giving (4%  5%) • In preparing your 2020 deployment numbers you need to plan your increased giving

  9. THE FUTURE • 100% payment of deanery share • Deanery share increase less than 3% across diocese • Budget balanced over 3 years • Each stipendiary minister costs £43k p.a. • Mission Development Fund

  10. Share Payments end April 2012 2012 2011 North 23.3% 23.4% South 31.1% 28.5%

  11. APPORTIONMENT - THE ISSUE • Every parish is trying extremely hard to pay what’s requested. • We do pretty well • But............. • Share payment has flatlined at 95% • Some deaneries do achieve 100% • We have a deficit of £82k p.a. • Our process builds in the deficit at the start

  12. THE CURRENT APPORTIONMENT PROCESS • Deaneries receive apportionment from diocese • Parishes provide financial updates • Deanery Finance Group and DLT apportion share and send out figures • T&I’s Meeting • Parishes confirm figures • Attempt to reduce predicted shortfall

  13. THE NEW APPORTIONMENT PROCESS • Deaneries receive apportionment from diocese • Parishes provide financial updates • Deanery Finance Group and DLT apportion share (1) and send out figures • Parishes respond with share they can commit to • Deanery Finance Group and DLT apportion share (2) and send out revised figures • T&I’s Meeting • Parishes confirm figures • Attempt to reduce any predicted shortfall
