  2. BASICS@WLD • On time for lessons, respect for learning. • Perfect uniform in every lesson. • Come in quietly. Sit down in your correct seat. • Equipment out – pen, pencil, ruler, planner and homework. • Starter activity – no wasted time. • Silent learning, listening to instructions. • Quiet signal - quiet if the teacher raises their hand • Put your hand up if you have a question. • Uniform correct before leaving the lesson. • End of the lesson, stand behind your chair and wait to be dismissed for an orderly exit.

Week Two: 30th September 2019 Respectful Definition: • feeling or showing deference (polite submission) and respect. adjective Characteristics: From Old French Respicere: ‘look back at, regard, consider’ (re – back; specere: look at) Examples: • The student was respectful in observing the minute’s silence. • She delivered a respectful reading of the poem. Synonyms: Deferential Humble dutiful Admiring Antonyms: Disrespectful Rude

  5. Discuss and give an example. Think of a situation/object/person that/who may be described as respectful. respectful Talk it through: The student was … in the way that he/she acted towards… The audience was … in observing the minute’s silence. feeling or showing deference (polite submission) and respect.

  6. Learn It! Learn it! • Add the word to the back of your planners. • Practise spelling it – verbally with a partner. • Tell your partner a sentence using the word. • Remind yourselves of our examples from earlier in the week. Try and use this word in at least one lesson this week!

The UK Youth Parliament provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their elected voice to bring about social change through meaningful representation and campaigning. Form tutors note the tally UK Topics Choose one of the following topics that you feel strongly about • Protect the Environment- We have a responsibility to protect the environment from the effects of climate change for future generations. • Votes at 16- Give 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote in all elections/referendums. • Tackling Hate Crime- We should be educated on how to report hate crime. We believe the Government should invest in creating safe spaces that promote unity in communities • Make Child’s Rights Statutory Law - This is important for children’s rights. The UK government agrees with it but they don’t currently have to follow it. • Welcome Refugees- Everyone deserves the right to live without fear of death and persecution so we believe that refugees should be welcomed into communities in the UK.

Form tutors note the tally Devolved topics Choose one of the following topics that you feel strongly about • Curriculum to Prepare Us for Life- Schools should cover topics like finance, sex and relationship education and politics • Tackle Child Poverty- No-one should have a disadvantaged start in life just because of their financial position; the Government should do more to put an end to child poverty. • Mental health- Services should be improved with young people’s help, and should be available in schools. • Stop street harassment- We think it needs to be recognised more. It could be stopped through investment in local strategies; and by both consulting young people and educating young people. • Put an end to knife crime- Too many young people’s lives are lost to knife crime; the Government need to do more to help end the knife crime epidemic.

  15. Wow! Look how committed your teachers are to you. They provide approximately 47 hours of extra-curricular activities per week. Show your commitment to them – get involved!
