  1. Race Intro Connect the terms to the film Sound and Fury

  2. Race Think more biological with common physical features. However, race means nothing other than how the society defines race. Why? There is only one race of human beings. Segregation Defacto vs. Dejure Unknown factor Legal Is the cause separation Ethnicity A group of human beings with common ancestry, language and religion. Assimilation Adopting the majority culture Culture Pattern of human activity. Could be institutional (SBHS) or ethnically

  3. Sir Francis Galton 1822-1911 Race as the term we know today begins in Europe as a result of European imperialism that allowed Europeans to come into contact with other group of a somewhat different look. I believe in: Superiority of the races Positive eugenics. I am Darwin’s cousin and he would be proud I have modified his Theory

  4. Galton’s Africa for the Chinese But take a globe and examine it, and consider the huge but poorly-peopled bulk of Africa, by whose side the areas of India and of China look insignificant, and think what a field lies there for the development of a suitable race. The Arab is little more than an eater up of other men’s produce; he is a destroyer rather than a creator. What role do you think writers like Sir Francis Galton played in establishing a Western definition of the term race? Chinese immigrants would not only maintain their position, but that they would multiply and their descendants supplant the inferior Negro race. Average negroes possess too little intellect, self-reliance, and self-control to make it possible for them to sustain the burden of any respectable form of civilization without a large measure of external guidance and support.
