  1. Mothers day cake stall

  2. What we did first First we researched the internet to find a good recipe to make a cake. We decided on chocolate muffins from www.taste.com.au • Preparation time • 15 minutes • Cooking Time • 20 minutes • Makes • 24 • Ingredients • 2 1/2 cups (375g) self-raising flour • 1/2 cup (50g) cocoa powder • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda • 125g butter, melted • 1 cup (250ml) milk • 1 tbs white vinegar • 1 tsp vanilla extract • Chocolate icing • 200g dark chocolate, chopped • 125g butter, chopped • 1/2 cup (80g) icing sugar mixture

  3. What we did next Then the teacher put it on the white board so we could write it down. Then we found out how much the ingredients would cost by looking at www.coleonline.com. We had to work out how much of each ingredient in the recipe we would need for the amount of cakes we were going to make for the cake sale. We then created an Excel spreadsheet listing all the ingredients and how much they would cost.

  4. The fun part • Next was the fun bit – we all chose from our recipe an ingredient to buy. • We then made a poster to advertise the cake stall using Microsoft word. • Then we made our cakes to sell. • Method • Preheat oven to 180°C. Line twenty-four 1/3 cup (80ml-capacity) muffin pans with paper cases. • Combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar and bicarbonate of soda in a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. • Whisk the butter, milk, vinegar and vanilla together in a jug. Pour into the well and use a wooden spoon to gently stir until mixture is just combined. Spoon evenly among the lined pans. • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the centres comes out clean. Remove from oven and set aside to cool. • To make the chocolate icing, place the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir with a metal spoon for 3-5 minutes or until chocolate and butter melt and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat. Add the icing sugar and stir well until combined. Set aside for 15-20 minutes or until icing is firm. Use a wooden spoon to beat until smooth. Spread over each muffin and serve immediately. • We set up our stall and sold our cakes.

  5. Conclusion • What we learnt from this experience was how to use the internet to research. • How to calculate ratio. Cakes: People. • How to use basic excel to calculate the cost of ingredients to keep us within budget. • How to use Microsoft word to create a poster. • How to do a PowerPoint presentation to explain what we have achieved.
