  1. ACADEMIC REGULATIONSChanges for 2012/13 onwards Academic SecretariatUCD Registry Academic Regulations are reviewed on an annual basis with all changes approved by Academic Council. In preparation for 2012/13, key changes to Academic Regulations as approved by Academic Council (01.03.2012 and 25.04.2011) are outlined below. The 2012/13 Academic Regulations, as well as the updated Online Users’ Guide and Academic Regulations Version History are available at http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/pol_regs.htm. PLEASE NOTE: All students, including students returning to their programme following a leave of absence or withdrawal, are governed by the Academic Regulations in place in the academic session they (re-)register. The status of PhD students returning from a leave of absence whose first registration was prior to 2006 may be determined by the relevant Graduate School Board. General Regulations Research Masters (RM), PhD, MD, DN/DM, DGov & DVMS Regulations Re-admission – Text amended to refer to ‘admission/re-admission’ and not ‘entry/re-entry’ (RM Section 8, PhD Section 16, MD Section 24, 24.4.1, DN/DM Section 32, 32.1, DGov Section 40, 40.1). The recommendations of the Examination Committee – Text amended to make more explicit the recommendations the Exam. Committee may make (RM 14.6.1/2/3, PhD 22.6.1/2/3, and MD 30.4.1/2/3). Progression within the DN/DM and DGov – Text amended to refer to ‘progression’ within the same programme and not ‘transfer’ (DN/DM 35.2, DGov 42.2). ‘Publishable/peer reviewed standard’ – Text condensed to refer to ‘publishable/peer reviewed standard’ (PhD 21.1, DN/DM 37.1, DGov 45.1). DGov governance – Text amended to reflect the governance of the IPA-UCD Academic Programme Board (DGov 39.3/4(iii)/5, 40.2.1/2, 40.3.1, 41.1, 42.1/4/5/6, 43.1/2/46/7, 44.2, 46.1, 46.1.1/3/4). Regulations for the Degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medical Specialisation – These regulations govern the newly introduced Professional Doctorate. • Re-admission – Text amended to refer to ‘admission/re-admission’ and not ‘entry/re-entry’ (3.8). • GPA related changes – Based on the recommendations of the GPA Working Group the following changes have been made: • Programme GPA, Degree Subject GPA and Semester GPA have been removed (5.3, 5.15, 5.15.2/9/11). • ‘Degree GPA’ is now ‘Award GPA’ thereby more accurately reflecting all the various awards offered by the University (5.3, 6.2, 6.2.1/2/3/5). • Based on the revised GPA methodology proposed by the GPA Working Group, which prioritises core and option modules up to the value of ‘required credits’, the definitions of Compensation GPA, Stage GPA and Award GPA have been amended (5.7.1, 5.15.2). To ensure that the most up-to-date version of Academic Regulations is referred to by students and staff, please ensure that in designing any programme-specific information (including web-pages, booklets) the regulations are linked to rather than quoted.
