  6. Majors in the B.Sc. (AES) A Major can be viewed as a “context” or “umbrella” for your chosen specialization(s). In other words, the Specialization is the “area” in which you are interested (e.g., animals, plants, soils, etc.) while the Major can be seen as the application of that area (e.g., production, biotechnology, international context, etc.). There are four majors in the B.Sc. (AES) under which our Specializations can be taken: The first two are the most likely to meet the needs of students interested in our Specializations, and are described in the next slides. • Major in Life Sciences • Major in Agro-Environmental Sciences • Major in Environmental Biology • Major in International Agriculture and Food Systems

  7. The Major in Life Sciences consists of the following 42 credits that complement at least one of the previous Specializations.   9. Putting it all together! The following “demo” tries to give you an idea as to how you can select your overall program at McGill. Since Specialization names are still the most informative in terms of students’ actual interests, we suggest you think of the specialization name as your “program” and the area in which you want to study. Next, you should pick a Major that gives you the complementary background to use when you graduate (i.e., do you wish to go into research, work for a company, interact with clients at the ground level, work for international agencies, etc.). If there are two specialization areas that interest you, you can add a second. You should then pick your free elective courses in order to make up the total number of 90 credits (you can do this later on in your program as your interests develop and, maybe, change!) .
