  3. Semester Abroad inNEW ZEALAND • Spend the winter 2010 semester abroad in New Zealand, and earn full Brock credits • Program includes time in residence at Otago University, Dunedin, and extensive field studies throughout the North and South Islands

  4. ideal for TREN majors • accessible to other majors for minor or elective credit • ‘B’ average required • 2.5 Brock credits delivered in New Zealand by Otago University faculty and a Brock professor in residence

Why go on a Semester Abroad? • Intensive international opportunity • Studies occur during the regular Brock academic semester -> no impact on summer employment • Better value: longer period abroad, lower rates for accommodations and board • Experience New Zealand as a resident and a student, not just as a tourist Michelle Williamson at Sandfly Bay

Program Overview When: January through March 2010 Where: • Otago University - Dunedin, NZ (South Island)04 January – 19 February • Field course throughout North and South Islands21 February – 14 March • Optional travel period from 3rd week of March • Program wrap-up in Canada: 23 March – 01 April (assignment submissions)

Schedule of Activities(subject to change) Jan – Feb 2010 • Otago campus classes:Mon 04 Jan – Fri 12 Feb 2010- 1 Otago credit: TOUR 306- Ecotourism Operations (substitutes for 1.0 TREN credits )- 0.5 Brock credit: TREN 3P18: Sustainable Transportation • Exam period: Sat 13 Feb – Wed 17 Feb 2010 • Break: Thu 18 Feb – Sun 21 Feb 2010 University of Otago campus

Cost($CDN – best estimates for 2010, but subject to change) Airfare (return, from Toronto): $2075 Otago international course fee: $2100 Brock credit transfer fee: $ 50 NZ Student Visa: $ 180 Otago accommodations and board: $ 2123(40 days, all meals included) Exam period accommodations: $ 150(3 days, breakfasts included) TREN Field Course (both islands): ~ $ 3900(21 days, breakfasts included) ________ Estimated total: ~ $10578(plus tuition for 1.5 Brock credits)

Deposit($CDN – best estimates, but subject to change) Confirmation of participation deposit (non-refundable): $1500 Due by 14 May 2008 • Additional deposits and payments will be required prior to departure (exact dates / amounts to be determined): • Airfare deposit ($1000 non-refundable) – June 2009 • Balance of airfare ($1800) – July 2009 • Otago accommodations and course fees: fall 2009 • New Zealand Student visa fee: fall 2009 • Field course - ground travel / accommodations: fall 2009 • Brock fees (1.5 credits) paid according to usual fee schedule

Living with your family in Niagara: $8400 Living in an apartment in Niagara: $7200 Net Cost($CDN – best estimates, but subject to change) Studying abroad in New Zealand will cost you about this much more compared to: • Living in Brock U.
