  2. Air Quality Proving Ground • Provide the national air quality community with a preview of GOES-R Advanced Baseline Imager aerosol products and train users for air quality forecasting, surveillance and compliance analysis • Users: NOAA, EPA, State and Local agencies (188 nationally) • Proxy ABI products: • AOD (hourly and composites) • AOD-derived AQI values • Synthetic natural color (RGB) • Aerosol type

  3. Progress • User community of 39 representatives of national and state agencies has been formed (5 power users as advisors) • Two real-time demonstration projects have been conducted, the last in June-August 2011 • Real-time simulated ABI products were produced by the team and spooled out hourly in the demonstration at http://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/smcd/spb/aq/aqpg/ • January 2012 workshop with the User Group provided feedback to the ABI team about the realism of the project (agenda/report on website: http://alg.umbc.edu/aqpg/) • Two papers in preparation: • Huff et al., 2012: Developing a Proving Ground for GOES-R Aerosol Products (journal TBD) • Hoff et al., 2012: Development of Synthetic GOES-R ABI Aerosol Products, J. Atmos. Oceanic Technol. (in submission)

  4. Additional AQPG 2012 Activities • Evaluating AWIPS-II as a delivery system for ABI aerosol products to the air quality community • Developing synthetic ABI near-real-time capability at STAR for Fall 2012 • 2nd “Day in the Life” Experiment in September 2012 • 3rd annual AQPG workshop at UMBC in October 2012 • Developing on-line satellite training modules • Trying to establish synergy between GOES-R and Suomi NPP AQPG activities by collaborating with NWS Alaska • Questions: Contact R. M. Hoff (hoff@umbc.edu)
