Erie History • Important in the War of 1812 • Ships built in Erie Niagara and Lawrence • Important site for the battle of Put In Bay Battle where Master Commandant Oliver Hazzard Perry of US and won and captured 6 of England’s ships • Location of Misery Bay where the US Army wintered during winter of 1813 – men who died were put through holes in ice in area called Graveyard Pond
