  2. RTH SOFIA • RTH - Sofia’s zone of responsibility as appointed to the regional meteorological telecommunication plan are: Albania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro andSyrian Arab Republic. • RTH - Sofia successfully migrated to the Regional Meteorological Data Communication Network (RMDCN) in Region VI (in March 2000). • RTH – Sofiause TCP/IP as the data transport protocol, with FTP, to all connections.

  5. VPN • Facilities: • Communications • -LAN access to POP • VPN server • - software emulation based on PC/Free BSD The VCP Coordinated Project: Implementation of the GTS circuit Tirana/Sofia over the Internet The presented project cover the necessity for operative international telecommunication link of NMC-Tirana into the GTS under the recommendations of WMO. The Project propose: ■ PC -based file distribution system at NMC-Tirana; ■ IPSec VPN over Internet. The point of the Project is the establishment of “Virtual Private Network” (VPN) over the public Internet. 7. RTH SOFIA Back-up systems • Transfer of bulletins to RTH-Sofia by using of HTTPS protocol • Exchange of data by using of e-mail

  8. RTH SOFIA Advantages: √ By connecting NMC Tirana to GTS is decreased the number of NMCs in the RTH Sofia’s zone of responsibility not included to the GTS; √RTH Sofia and all associated NMCs in the zone of responsibility use Internet; √ Using of e-mail for the administrative exchange of message; √ Promptly and in time change of the set of data exchanged in the zone of responsibility by a NMC request and between MTN RTHs, as well.

  9. RTH SOFIA Problems About connection to the GTS √ There is a NMC not connected to GTS yet: NMC Damascus VPN/IPSec over Internet connection between RTH Sofia and NMC Damascus – recommendation of RAVI WG PIW, fifth session; √ NMC Larnaca uses low speed connection to GTS via NMC Athens The attempt of RTH Sofia could be apply in NMC Larnaca for the VPN/IPSec over Internet connection between RTH Sofia and NMC Larnaca by the implementation of a relevant project; About equipments RTH Sofia needs of the hardware upgrade. ABOUT ADMINISTRATIVE COMMUNICATIONS The exchange of administrative messages to/from NMC Skopje is very difficult to its focal point. OTHERS A need of training – new telecommunication/IT technologies.
