  3. A Great Poster is... • readable • grammar,clear,large font • well organized • spatial organization , flow • succinct - • To the point • 11 seconds!! to grab attention

  4. To begin... • Decide what is the main message • Keep short • avoid passive, “ing” and “to be” • Measure the space you have • lay out with pieces of paper • Draw a rough sketch of your poster first • Keep text to a minimum! Eliminate extraneous material • it takes away from central message • emphasize Graphics

  5. Contents • Title, Authors • Abstract and/or Introduction • Data & Methodology (optional) • most people won’t read this • Results • Conclusions

  6. How to arrange poster elements? • People track information in known way* *According to recent studies.

  7. Details: Font choice • Arial, Helvetica, Geneva • Big enough to see from 4-6 feet away! • Highlights with Capitals, italics • Don’tusetoomanyfonts on same page • Use bullets instead of numbers • ALL CAPITALS ARE HARD TO READ AND GIVE IMPRESSION OF YELLING.

  8. Details: Adding Color • Mounting boards with color • Construction paper behind each page • Photos look best when mounted on gray • Use contrast, but not too much Voltage E= ma2 E= mb2 E= mc2

  10. How?Cuteach Picture, thenPaste Specialin JPG or GIF Format. Ahorra Mbytes! • Ahorra materiales y energía OR> Right-click on figure, press Format Figure, Compress , All, or change with Paste Special to Jpeg or gif Format. Save a lot of space on your USB memory sticks! Up to 20x!!

  11. How? Cut each Picture, then Paste Special in JPG or GIF Format. Ahorra Mbytes! Ahorra materiales y energía- Puedes acomodar de 4 a 20 veces más material en un USB drive!!! OR> Right-click on any figure, press Format Figure, Compress , All, or change with Paste Special to Jpeg or Gif Format. Save a lot of space on your USB memory sticks! Up to 20x!!

  12. Recommendations • Use pages with White background • No dark background, waste of ink. • Be prepared 3-5 days before hand • Check on the materials (clips, tape…) • Arrive with enough time to organize • Practice questions they might ask F Some examples will now be presented.
