  2. Basics • Ephedra is a shrub like herb native to central Asia and Mongolia. • Ephedrine is the main active compound found in the plant. It is a naturally occurring alkaloid classified as a stimulant • Ephedra has been used for up to 5,000 years and used to treat a variety of conditions such as colds, fever, flu, headaches, asthma, wheezing, and nasal congestion, and as a performance enhancer. • The dried stems and leaves of the plant Ephedra is used in capsules, tablets, and teas.
