  3. Introduction • The next seven step process can be completed at your own pace. It does not need to be rushed though and at the same time, you do not need to spend a whole day upon each step. Christ’s gift of life after death is the final goal of this program and is very easy to achieve. It gets even better, this is a totally free gift to you. Christ paid the price 2000 years ago on a Roman cross so that you do not have to. The only thing that he asks in return is that you live your life for him, and know that without him, we are nothing.

  4. Introduction (more about steps) • Each step builds on the others, culminating in Steps 6 and 7, so skipping steps is not advised, but if you wish to, then do so. • Each step uses verses from the Holy Bible. The versions that I have written out will come from the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), the New International Version (NIV), and The Contemporary English Version (CEV). I recommend that if you have a Bible, you also read the passages in your Bible, and feel free to underline the parts that are important to you, or that have meaning to you. If you do not have a Bible, the people in the reference section are more than willing to help you get one. • Each step is followed by suggested further readings. These readings from the Bible help to show the point made in the step, or perhaps give more background to what was talked about in that step.

  5. Step 1: Understanding WHY • FOCUS VERSE: Ephesians 1:4-5 • NRSE: Just as he chose is in Christ before the foundation of thee world to be holy and blameless before him in love. • NIV: For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Chris, in accordance with his pleasure and will. • CEV: Before the world was created, God had Christ choose us to live with him and to be his holy and innocent and loving people.  God was kind and decided that Christ would choose us to be God's own adopted children.

  6. Step 1: Understanding WHY • God created us to be perfect, he created us in his image. Unfortunately in the time of Adam and Eve, they committed the original sin and from that point on, we are born sinners. It is this sin that removes the perfection that God created us with. • God created us to have a relationship with him . He still wants us to have that relationship, but he cannot have that since we are not like him, we are not perfect. • This puts us in a hard spot, God wants a relationship with us, but cannot have that, since we have been born with sin. How do we get around this sin, to have that relationship with God? Read on, the following 5 steps explain more about how this is possible.

  7. Step 1: Understanding WHY • FURTHER READINGS • Reading the first 3 chapters in Genesis will explain the story behind our creation. Chapters 1 and 2 are two different accounts of this creation, but they are similar. The third chapter talks about the original sin that I mentioned earlier.

  8. Step 2: What’s in it for ME • FOCUS VERSE: John 10:10 • NRSV: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. • NIV: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. • CEV: A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.

  9. Step 2: What’s in it for ME • Basically put the best thing that you get out of a life with Christ is Heaven and in Heaven, you avoid Hell. Both Heaven and Hell are very real places, and Hell definitely is a place that we should avoid at all cost. Best part is, avoiding Hell is part of the package deal that comes with accepting Jesus Christ. • A life with God and Christ is just better. God is willing to just take all of the burdens of our lives and handle them. He will take all the suffering, all the tribulation that we go through and make it worth it, two fold. This does not mean that you will have no hard times in your journey toward eternal life, nothing removes that, God could, but that is not a part of his plan. What God does is takes you and makes what ever your going through play a big role in his plan, and knowing that you do not have to worry about what is going to happen next because you know that God is watching over you and those around you. That is a very comforting feeling.

  10. Step 2: What’s in it for ME • The friends that you will meet in your new Christian brotherhood will be some of the best people that you will ever meet. They will leave a very strong, positive impact on your life, and they will stand by you when the hard times come. Most of them have been where you are now, and they know what it takes, and they know that what you are about to do might not be easy, but they know that it is worth every once of effort that is put into it • The life lessons that you will learn will be priceless. The effects of the actions that you take as a Christian will impact those around you like nothing you have ever seen before, and the echoes will ring throughout eternity.

  11. Step 2: What’s in it for ME • FURTHER READINGS: • John 14:1-4, Jesus uses this passage to tell of the comfort that his father has for us • Matthew 25:31-46, This passage describes the judgment and states that there will be a separation between those who accept Christ and live their life that way, and those who do not

  12. Step 3: Admittance • FOCUS VERSE: Romans 3:23 • NRSV: Since all have sinned and all fall short of the glory of God • NIV: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God • CEV: All of us have sinned and fallen short of God's glory

  13. Step 3: Admittance • You’ve sinned, I’ve sinned, my pastor has sinned, and I’m fairly sure that the Pope has sinned. That is a part of being human. Ever since Adam and Eve committed the original sin, sin has been a part of our lives, something that we cannot get around. • Just come to grips with the fact that there is nothing that you can do that will help you to stop sinning completely, it is impossible. However, with Christ in our lives, all we have to do is say “Yes I am a sinner, Father please forgive me for what I have done” and He will. God will forgive all of your sin, His son paid the price upon the cross, all you have to do is ask for His forgiveness.

  14. Step 3: Admittance • FURTHER READINGS: • Romans 7:21-25, This passage talks about how part of goes against the Law of God (sinning) and that He will save us from that • Romans 3:9-20, This passage talks about how man is bad and can do no good that is good enough to get us into Heaven

  15. Step 4: Knowing Your Relationship with God • John 14:6 • NRSV: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” • NIV: Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” • CEV: "I am the way, the truth, and the life!" Jesus answered. "Without me, no one can go to the Father.

  16. Step 4: Knowing Your Relationship with God • God desires a relationship with us. But like we talked about back in step one, sin separates us from that possibility. Jesus died on that Roman cross so that we might live, so that we might have that relationship with God. • Without first accepting Jesus Christ, God will listen to nothing that we ask of Him. Jesus bridges the gap between us and the Father so that we might have the relationship that God desires.

  17. Step 4: Knowing Your Relationship with God

  18. Step 4: Knowing Your Relationship with God • FURTHER READINGS: • Psalm 51:1-17, This passage is David’s song asking God for His forgiveness of sin • Psalm 32:1-11, Another passage by David asking for God’s forgiveness and praising Him for it.

  19. Step 5: Belief In Jesus • FOCUS VERSE: Romans 5:8 • NRSV: But God proves His love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. • NIV: But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. • CEV: But God showed how much he loved us by having Christ die for us, even though we were sinful.

  20. Step 5: Belief In Jesus • Welcome to the backbone of our faith as Christians. If it were not for the death and resurrection of Jesus, I would not be writing this, and you would have no reason to be reading it if I did. This is possibly the biggest step in becoming a Christian and knowing what that means, accepting Christ.

  21. Step 5: Belief in Jesus • This is the point where deep in your heart you need to accept that Jesus is your Savior and that He died for you, so that you might live and have eternal life. If you cannot do that, go back through the first 4 steps, reread what is there, or move ahead to the Resources section and find someone to talk to about this. Obviously if you have made it this far you have the desire to move farther, and we have the desire for you to move farther. Once you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, take and move on into steps 6 and 7.

  22. Step 5: Belief in Jesus • FURTHER READING • John 3:16, another verse like Romans 5:8, stating just how great God’s gift to us is. • 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians he emphasizes just how important faith in Jesus Christ is.

  23. Step 6: Beginning Your New Life • FOCUS VERSE: 2 Corinthians 5:17 • NRSV: So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new • NIV: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! • CEV: Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new

  24. Step 6: Beginning Your New Life • First I would like to welcome you to the family of Christ. I am so overwhelmed that you have made it to this point, and guess what, God is too. He has longed for this relationship with you from day one, and now the two of you can build the friendship that will last longer than any other.

  25. Step 6: Beginning your New Life • It is time that you start your new life, by asking God for his forgiveness. He is ready to give it to you, and I believe that your heart is ready to receive it. There are no further readings for this section, they are all after step 7. Step 7 is a sample prayer on how you can start your life with Christ so there is no focus verse, the focus is your open communication with God, and so long as you mean it with all of your heart, mind and soul, He is listening.

  26. Step 7: A Simple Prayer • The following two slides are just sample prayers to God, dealing with you accepting Christ as your savior, and accepting Him into your life. If you would rather, come up with your own prayer, it does not matter how you pray to God right now, it just matters that you mean what you say and when you ask Him to forgive you for your sins and when you tell Him that you accept His son as your savior. We’ll deal more with how to pray in a later program.

  27. Step 7: A Simple Prayer • Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way. I realize I need you in my life and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian. Amen.

  28. Step 7: A Simple Prayer • Dear Jesus, thank you so much for loving me. I know that I’ve messed up in my past, I know that I’ve gone against your word, gone against you and your father. I know that at one point in time I thought that I could live without you, but I know now that I cannot. Please forgive my sins, like only you can. Please teach me your will and your way so that I can live my life for you. Thank you so much for giving your life upon that cross, you did not have to but you loved me so much that you did. Jesus, I accept your gift of salvation and eternal life, please Jesus, come into my life. Amen.

  29. Step 7: A Simple Prayer • FURTHER READING: • All that I can suggest from here, start with Genesis, move on the Exodus, then Leviticus, and so on until you hit Revelations. Reading your Bible is a big part of being a Christian, its how God will talk to you most of the time. Once you’ve read through it once, do it again and again, you will learn so much every time you read through it.

  30. Follow Up • Thank you so much for taking the dive into the world that many others love just as much as you will come to know. I cannot express how much it means to me every time there is another brother or sister in the family of Christ. But even better than that, God is ecstatic and His angels are singing for you right now. If you found this really helpful, let us know or if there is anything that you think would make this better, so that others can benefit from this even more, Students for Christ would greatly appreciate any comments.

  31. Follow Up • The next step is up to you. There are many people that are willing to talk to you about what you have just gone through and I would recommend that you find at least one. If you would like to continue with this program I invite you to. The next step would be the Life of a Christian. This program shows just the basics of a Christ based life and talks about things like prayer, daily life, and things of that nature, it is just an introduction, you will have to decided how to live your life for Christ.
