Mandate for UN work on SCP “The major cause of the continued deterioration of the global environment are the unsustainable patterns of consumption and production…” “SCP is one of the overarching objectives of, and essential requirements for, sustainable development.” “Encourage and promote the development of a 10YFP to shift towards SCP patterns” “We adopt the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production patterns, as contained in document A/CONF.216/5.”

  5. The 10YFP on SCP Global Framework for Action Build cooperation Technical and Financial Assistance Capacity Building Support Implementation of Voluntary measures Policies Management practices

The 10YFP today • To date, over 108 countries have nominated their national focal points. • Possible roles: • Support the vision, objectives and goals of the 10YFP. • Share information on the 10YFP • Enhance interministerial and multistakeholder coordination. • Develop project and initiatives • Submit/endorse funding proposals to the Trust Fund Major Groups of ECOSOC Organizing Partners and UNEP Facilitating Committees have been invited to work together and nominate 10YFP stakeholder focal points. Each of the 9 Major groups will nominate in an open and transparent process: • - 1 Global stakeholder focal point and an alternate ,and • - 5 regional focal points and alternates (based on the UN Regional Groups). • To date Secretariat has received nominations from: NGOS, Workers &Trade Unions , Women, and Youth and Children

Prioritization • 32 headline indicators for 8 main indicator domains were proposed and 60 experts (governments, academia, NGOs, provate sector) were asked to prioritize the proposed indicators and assess their feasibility using a 3 digit Likertscale • 10 indicators classified as high priority, 12 indicators as medium priority and 10 indicators as low priority

Priority Indicators • Material, energy, and water that fuel economic development and human wellbeing in Asia • The emission cost of growth and wellbeing • Using Asia’s natural resources most efficiently (resource productivity) • The water for Asia’s food production • Emissions for producing Asia’s energy • The materials for the consumer goods • The materials for Asia’s housing and infrastructure • Emission for getting around • Material footprint of services • The material, energy, and water for consumption • The emission cost of consumption
