The peoples of East Asia and Southeast Asia have a rich cultural heritage. • Since ancient times, different local religions have greatly influenced the region. • In the modern era, the rise of a global culture has also brought change to the area. Think about the different languages, music, and customs people have in the United States. Diversity is even greater in East Asia and Souteast Asia.

  9. Respect your elders! The center of ALL social life in East and Southeast Asia……..?? This lifestyle largely reflects the ideas of Confucius. Young people are taught to show respect to older relatives.

In Chinese communism, most businesses in the country were owned and run by the government • The system didn’t work well for the economy • To spark growth, China relaxed some laws for farmers and factories • Since 1979, people have had the freedom to make, buy and sell consumer goods • However, being able to do this has led to air and water pollution 
