Environmental Vision A carbon neutral city region with a thriving natural environment and zero-waste economy. All citizens will have access to: green space in every community, active travel networks, environmental education and to healthy and locally-produced food. There will be an integrated, clean and affordable public transport system, resource efficient buildings, greater local community renewable energy, clean air, water and greenspace for all. Our infrastructure will be smart and fit for the future. SCATTER - Introduction • Interventions for consideration by city regions are broken down into four broad categories • Energy supply (e.g. use of solar photovoltaic panels and biomass for generating renewable electricity) • Energy demand from buildings (e.g. use of retrofit technologies to reduce the demand for energy in domestic and commercial buildings, switching space heating to electrified methods) • Energy demand from transport (e.g. adoption of ultralow emission vehicles, reducing domestic vehicular travel) • Natural capital (e.g. city greening and peatland) A greenhouse gas emissions inventory that is aligned with the World Resource Institute’s Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (“GPC”); A range of illustrative emission scenarios to 2050, based on the adoption or application of a number of emission reducing interventions using existing technologies; and A report on the emissions target set that transparently details the nature and extent of any related emissions reduction, aligned with the World Resource Institute’s Mitigation Goal Standard (“MGS”).
