  3. If + Past Simple Would / Could / Might + Bare Infinitive • If I won the lottery, I would buy a car. • If I were you, I would go to the dentist. It’s used to talk about an imaginary situation or to give advice. TYPE 2

  4. TYPE 3 If + Past Perfect Would / Could / Might + have + Past Participle • If Tom had studied harder, he would have passed the exams. • If I had known you were coming, I could have baked a cake. It’s used to talk about something that didn’t happen in the past.
