  3. Purpose of the evening Inspire Achieve Excel By the end of the evening you should have: A full understanding of the key expectations, events and challenges of Year 11. A variety of strategies to use to support your daughter in her learning.

Faculty Support Inspire Achieve Excel • Faculty Support: • CA rewrite sessions for identified students; • Revision sessions for exams; • Continuous assessment with feedback and target setting; • Teacher-Parent communication; • Re-sits for exam units for those who do not achieve at least their target grade; • 1:1 support for identified students; • Personalised learning.

  11. How can I succeed in English? Inspire Achieve Excel Practice – exam prep, class and home work and asking for additional work; Familiarise yourself with the grade criteria; Revise – techniques, grammar, paragraphing etc; Take responsibility for your learning – seek support, be proactive.

  13. Achieving an A* - C Inspire Achieve Excel The questions are not differentiated – your response will determine your grade; The more sophisticated the response, the better the grade.

  14. Unit 1: Reading Non-Fiction – Grade Boundaries Inspire Achieve Excel C Grade: Select appropriate detail from the text to show understanding. These answers should be making inferences (what is suggested). Better answers should sustain a valid interpretation. A* Grade: Select and explore appropriate detail from the text with depth and insight. These answers should be thorough as well as perceptive covering a range of points accurately and with an assured grasp of character.

The Writing Exams Inspire Achieve Excel • Two Non-Fiction Writing tasks. • Students are assessed on the following: • Understanding of purpose; • Understanding of audience; • Understanding of technique; • Understanding of style and layout; • Accuracy in spellings, punctuation and grammar; • Use of of a range of sentences for effect; • Control of tense.

The Grade Boundaries Inspire Achieve Excel C Grade: Content is relevant and keeps the reader interested; Paragraphs are structured correctly and allow the reader to move from one focus to another; Detailed content is organised within paragraphs; Range of vocabulary used for precise meaning; Some range of techniques; Sentences are varied – compound and complex are used; Some control of a range of punctuation; Spellings are usually accurate; Control of tense is mostly secure. A* Grade: Content is well judged and engages interest; Paragraphs are effectively varied to control detail and progression; Sophisticated organisation of detail, Wide range of ambitious and appropriate vocabulary for effect; Range of techniques used for effect; Appropriate and effective variation of sentences for effect; Accurate punctuation to vary pace, meaning and effect; Virtually all spellings are correct, including complex words; Tense changes are used purposefully and securely.

  19. Maths – Early Entry Inspire Achieve Excel All students will sit the exam in March. If they achieve their target grade they will be reset and use the time to focus on other subjects If your daughter doesn’t achieve her target they will resit the exam in June at no extra cost. If your daughter does achieve her target grade but wants to try to better this, then you will be charged for the resit.

  26. Homework, Revision, Exam details KS4 Pathway to Success Inspire Achieve Excel The expectation is that your daughter should complete an hour to an hour and a half per subject per week for home learning. Your daughter can also work in school from 3.30-5.00pm.
