Dissemination And InterpretationOf Time Use Data The Proposed Dissemination Package For Statistics New Zealand’s Time Use Data
The Proposed Dissemination Package A set of estimates or tables Simple graphs of some of those estimates A commentary on the estimates A set of confidentialised unit record files(for professional users of the data) A data dictionary and user manual(for professional users of the data), and hopefully An interactive web graph
The Most UsefulEstimates And Data For Users are likely to be…. ….. the comparison data(changes in New Zealand time use between 1998-99 and 2009-10)
The Confidentialised Unit Record Files We expect to have available- a person data set, and- an activity data set, or an episode data set
We Are Attempting To PublishOn Our WebsiteAn Interactive GraphOf Our Time Use Data • We thought the one that the New York Times published on American time use data was really cool:- http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2009/07/31/business/20080801-metrics-graphic.html
We Consider That An Interactive GraphOf Our Time Use DataCould Get Potential UsersVery Interested In That Data Users could start their own analysis of the data online
Dissemination And InterpretationOf Time Use Data Key Issue For New Zealand AroundThe Dissemination Of Time Use Data
The Dissemination Issue is Ensuring our Time Use data is well used- Time Use data is still fairly unfamiliar to many New Zealand data users, and - the structure of time use data is quite complex, so users need good SAS skills to work with it. And at the same time- it is very expensive to collect time use data - in order to keep having a 10-yearly Time Use Survey we need to find potential new users of the data • We plan to conduct an extensive road show of our time use data and provide good training in how the data might be used and how to access it correctly
Finally, here isa picture ofone of ourTime Use analysts –Cheng. He came to New Zealandabout 10years ago
