  2. OrthodonticstreatmentforChildren Orthodontics is a field of dentistry that deals with irregular bites. Edward Angle is the father of Orthodontics. Conventional orthodontic treatment includes the use of orthodontic wires inserted into metal brackets which later paved the way for newer ceramic brackets and Invisalign. Based on pretreatment planning, certain cases require tooth extraction so as to facilitate tooth movement. Functional appliances like headgear, jackscrews are used in growing stages for dentofacial corrections. The branch of orthodontics that modify jaw dimensions and relationship in growing patients is called Dentofacial Orthodontics. Following a course of active orthodontic treatment, patients are instructed to use retainers so as to maintain the teeth in their improved positions. The retainers are used full time or part time, especially during the night as recommended by orthodontist so as to maintain the corrected occlusion. It's likely that there is some tooth movement that becomes evident in stopping the use of retainers. Changes in the position of teeth can continue throughout life, so it's advisable to wear retainers at least for a part-time basis.

  3. INVISALIGN As aesthetics becomes a prime concern for the patient, which lead to the development of Invisalign. These are removable retainers that use clear aligner to straighten teeth. The recommended usage is 20 hours per day and is removed while eating. As these are clear aligners, it's aesthetically pleasing for the patients which make them use it for a prolonged time period. There are newer developments in the field of orthodontics, like self-ligating braces, lingual braces etc. All of them give emphasis on aesthetic as well as functional corrections rather that functional corrections alone. Aesthetics becomes an important factor in orthodontics, as the treatment is taken up mostly by adolescents.

  4. SELF LIGATING BRACES Self-ligating braces use clips instead of elastic bands which aids in less friction while brushing. Negative impact for these ligating braces is that they are not completely hidden and cumbersome task of cleaning the braces.

  5. LINGUAL BRACES Lingual braces are completely hidden from sight. The brackets are placed on lingual aspects of the teeth which makes it little hard for the patient to get adapt to it. It requires more skilled practitioner and specialist material to carry out lingual treatment.
