Recent Developments • Migration within the US for first 200 years was westward (farmland) • Now, migrants within US move for better jobs, better climate (elderly people moving to Florida / Arizona) • Some countries’ governments like Russia, Brazil, and Indonesia have encouraged / forced people to move to develop new regions • Migration in LDCs – rural to urban • Migration in MDCs – urban to suburban • Counterurbanization – Technology in MDCs allows some to move to rural areas and continue to work
