  4. Why do we have 365 days in a year? • The earth orbits the sun. • It takes 365.25 days for the earth to make one full orbit of the sun.

  5. Why do we have 365 days in a year? • We have a leap year every 4 years to make up for the .25 of a day that we don’t count in a ‘regular’ year.

  7. Why do we have day and night? • While the earth is rotating the sun, it is also spinning on its axis. • When we are facing the sun = daylight. • When we are not facing the sun = nighttime. • One rotation of the earth takes 23 hours 56 minutes.

  11. Why do we have seasons? • Seasons arise due to the angle that the earth is tilted. • In summer, our part of the world is tilted towards the sun. • Sun is pointed at us for longer, our part of the earth gets warmer = hot weather • In winter, our part of the world is tilted away from the sun.

  14. The Moon • The moon orbits the earth and takes 29.5 days to travel once around the Earth. • The moon also spins as it orbits the Earth. It takes 29.5 days to turn around once. • This means that we always see the same side of the moon – called the near side.
