  2. Things you can learn from mountain climbing • Know your target and where you are heading • As you have entered 1st semester of freshmen year this week, what is your target? Where are you headed in life?

  3. Have the necessary tools to achieve your goal • What tools do you need to reach your college and career readiness goals?

  4. Don’t travel alone • Why should you travel this high school journey with others? • Who should you travel with as you climb the high school mountain? • Who can help you reach your goal?

  5. Set smaller targets on your way to reach the goal • What short-term (6 months or less) target should you set now to help you reach your ultimate (final) goal?

  6. Don’t give up • There are always setbacks. You can’t let them stop you from succeeding. • Name 3 setbacks that you might have to overcome to be successful in high school, college and/or a career.

  7. Enjoy the journey • As you climb towards your goal, have fun along the way. • What can you do to have fun as you progress up the high school mountain?

  8. Revel in your success • Celebrate as you achieve each step towards your goal • Visualize an achievement you can celebrate as you reach for your ultimate goal
